Gender Inequalities and Entrepreneurship in Higher Education: An Insight into the Context of UBE University, Ecuador

This study analyses the factors that hinder the development of entrepreneurial spirit among electrical engineering students, with particular attention to gender-related differences. The findings reveal that women face more pronounced limitations than their male counterparts, mainly due to sociocultural factors and their low representation in the technical field. However, they demonstrate higher levels of independence and commitment, reflecting a strong inclination toward entrepreneurial initiatives. Conversely, men showed greater self-confidence in their innovative abilities, which may be influenced by gender-based stereotypes. Furthermore, institutional barriers were identified, highlighting the need for universities to adopt more equitable and inclusive policies and training programmes. Overall, the results underscore the importance of promoting gender-sensitive higher education that fosters equality, enhances female participation, and strengthens the entrepreneurial culture within electrical engineering.
