Experience of community engagement through Service-Learning between students of Civil Engineering Informatics at the University of Viña del Mar and entrepreneurs from La Calera (Chile)

This study presents the application of the Service-Learning methodology in a real-world setting, through the development of virtual stores for entrepreneurs in La Calera, Valparaíso (Chile). The aim of this methodology is to design and implement an IT solution, extending the learning experience beyond the classroom. The process is structured into five phases: 1) problem identification, 2) group motivation, 3) planning, 4) execution, and 5) evaluation. The sample consists of 16 students and 4 entrepreneurs. The findings show significant results, highlighting positive perceptions among participants, who expressed high levels of motivation, commitment, and satisfaction. In conclusion, Service-Learning proves to be an effective strategy for university projects with impact, promoting the development of practical skills and strengthening community engagement.
